Sponsorship FAQs

Sponsoring a Child: Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does MCP sponsorship provide?

MCP sponsorship provides food, clothing, medical treatment, vocational and educational assistance (including school uniforms and other basic supplies), as well as social work services (including counseling, mentoring, crisis intervention and advocacy) for all the children in the program. Help is provided based on the individual needs of each child.

2. How long is my commitment as a sponsor?

MCP continues monthly sponsorship until the sponsor notifies us that he/she wishes to end support. Sponsorship will be discontinued at the time of the request.

3. How do I become a sponsor?

Email [email protected] to join the program and set up your sponsorship payments online.

4. What is my financial commitment as a sponsor?

Basic Sponsorship: $35/month

Extended Sponsorship: $50 for a sibling pair or special needs child

5. How do I determine the most appropriate child to sponsor?

Ask yourself, “Which child will touch my heart the most? A boy or a girl? Younger or older? A vocational student? A pair of siblings? A child with special needs?” That child will be the most appropriate for you.

6. Can I write or send gifts to the child/children I have chosen?

Sponsors may correspond with their sponsored child by letter or e-mail. Please send e-mails to [email protected] or mail letters to P.O. Box 51556, Eugene, OR 97405. Correspondence will be forwarded to staff in Kenya. We ask sponsors to write about yourself, including a photo, if you wish. You may choose to write a letter to all the children, and it will be read aloud to them.  We don’t single out any children with gifts.  If you wish to make an additional gift donation, the Kenyan staff will determine what is most needed by all the children including your special child.  With a small extra donation, staff can provide a treat to celebrate birthdays.

7. How often will I receive updates on the child/children?

A program report and recent photo will be sent to you twice a year and a drawing from the child once. These reports can be received online or by mail. Choosing electronic reports reduces the program’s costs and allows more sponsorship dollars to reach the children.
