Borehole Project Update

Enjoying a break from lessons

We are thrilled to announce that the Makindu Children’s Centre will be breaking ground to begin construction on the borehole within the next month! The project has seen some great successes so far, thanks to so many generous supporters. GlobalGiving donors have contributed over $8,000 towards the borehole, and along with other individual donations as well as grants received from a few Rotary clubs within Oregon, we have now raised a total of $20,000 for the borehole project.

A few weeks ago, a geological survey was conducted and water license approval granted, and the area was cleared to begin groundbreaking for construction. This is a major victory for the Makindu Children’s Centre as the borehole will directly impact 1,200 children and their families. This borehole will empower the Makindu Children’s Centre to act as a community resource and public utility, saving MCC thousands of dollars each year. In addition, the borehole will provide MCC with a steady income source, which will serve to further augment MCC’s programs

This fundraising project has been an incredible success thanks to donors devoted to the concept that access to clean, affordable water is a basic human right. With your assistance, we are committed to return water rights back into the hands of the people.  But, we are not finished yet!  To further aid MCC, we hope to now raise an additional $10,000 to make both the borehole and the entire Makindu Children’s Centre solar powered. This will save even more money currently spent on electricity.  The borehole and solar powering will contribute towards not only the self-sufficiency of the centre, but to the ongoing sustainability of the program.

Please consider contributing again to help complete our goal, or tell your friends and family about our project! Share the GlobalGiving link on your blogs or social networks, use the tell-a-friend feature on the project page to email your network, or just bring us up in conversation. You know your friends and family best, so use your own words – tell them why you chose our project and what it means to you. Every donation helps to ensure that we can continue helping the Makindu community.

Thank you again for all you have done to help this cause.
