Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does MCP sponsorship provide?

MCP sponsorship provides food, clothing, medical treatment, vocational and educational assistance (including school uniforms and other basic supplies), as well as social work services (including counseling, mentoring, crisis intervention and advocacy). MCP helps each child based on their individual needs.

2. How long is my commitment as a sponsor?

MCP continues monthly sponsorship until the sponsor notifies us that he/she wishes to end support. Sponsorship will be discontinued at the time of the request.

3. How do I become a sponsor?

You may contact MCP by phone at 541-515-8939 or set up sponsorship online at www.makindu.org.

4. Can I write to the child/children I am sponsoring or send gifts?

We encourage correspondence from sponsors. Since the children interact closely, it would be unkind to the others to single out some children to receive mail. We ask sponsors to write about themselves, including a photo, addressed to all the children.
Your sponsored child, along with the others, will hear the letter aloud and see your photo. These will be posted on a bulletin board. If you wish to send a gift, you may make an additional donation at any time. Those gifts are used to purchase toys, school books, blankets, a goat or cow, or whatever the Kenyan staff determines is most needed by the
children, including your special child.

5. How do I determine the most appropriate child to sponsor?

Ask yourself: “Which child will touch my heart the most? A boy or a girl? Younger or older? A vocational student? A pair of siblings? A child with special needs?” That child will be the most appropriate for you.

6. What is my financial commitment as a sponsor?

Basic Sponsorship: Sponsorship of an individual child is $35/month. Extended Sponsorship: A sibling pair or special needs child can be sponsored for $50/month.

7. How often will I receive updates on the child/children that I am sponsoring?

A program report and recent photo will be sent to you three times a year. These reports can be received online or by mail. Online reports, of course, reduce the program’s costs and allow more sponsorship dollars to reach the children.
